Building on our experiences of the last 18 months we are excited to announce our new model for the Big Sing 2021. Together with Glyndebourne we have developed a singing project for this autumn/winter that will help to connect more young singers than ever before as we prepare for a special digital event; connecting schools across our region for the biggest sing yet!
The programme launched at an online workshop and teachers from primary, secondary and special schools were invited to join us on Zoom at 4pm on Thursday 30 September to go through some vocal coaching tips and techniques and to learn the repertoire that we have put together for this project.
With varying limitations on singing in different school and performance settings, we have planned for an event in which we know everyone who wishes to, will be able to take part.

During the autumn term, teachers will be asked to work with their pupils to learn the songs and to prepare for the premiere performance on Wednesday 15th December. The performance will be broadcast live, at 2pm and 7pm on the 15th, with school choirs able to join in with the songs they have learnt, from within their own school in the afternoon. Families will also be able to watch the performance online later that evening.
To support preparation for the Big Sing performance, we will also be hosting workshops/singing surgeries for teachers in October/November. These can be a combination of face-to-face and online events. Book a Singing Surgery for your school here.
The Big Sing 2021 is open to pupils at primary, secondary and specials schools; with individual schools having the option of how much repertoire they would like to learn and how many pupils take part. There will also be an opportunity for school choirs to be recorded (before the event), singing songs from the programme and to feature in the online broadcast performance. There will be support from Brighton & Hove Music & Arts/East Sussex Music to create these recordings..
The Big Sing recorded performance will feature schools from across the region, but also ensembles from Brighton & Hove Music & Arts/East Sussex Music; and we are hoping, some special guests will join us to connect and celebrate through singing this Christmas.
In order to take part in this event and ensure that you receive the event pack, resources and all information about vocal events taking place in the autumn term, please make sure that you register in advance.
We look forward to working with you throughout the term as we reintroduce singing in schools and prepare for this exciting festive event!
