The People are Revolting!

King Arthur’s Quest,

St Johns Church, Brighton

June 17th 2017

After months of work for all the staff involved the performance of King Arthurs Quest finally happened last week to a packed-out St Johns Church and it was glorious.

Each of the three primary schools taking part (Stanford Juniors, Goldstone Primary & St John the Baptist) received 2 workshops lead by Cherry Forbes (OAE) and members of the BREMF Live! programme. Throughout the workshops, they were taught the songs, talked to the leaders and learnt about the opera as well as the OAE and the type of instruments they play. SJB also created some recorder parts to play during the performance too.

As well as the choir, the project has a strong link to the Basslines Project and O360. The video clip is of the final Rondo from the performance and I was completely blown away with the outcome. The main theme was composed by o360 during one of the three sessions they had for the performance.

The other instrument features were written during a 2-hour workshop where each group of Basslines players composed their own parts. I had no idea how James was going to turn it into a piece for the opera; that man is a genius.

As part of the project we have invited all of the pupils who took part to undertake the Arts Award Discover which is something we are aiming to promote across several projects this year.

The Basslines project, which I talked about in my previous blog, was aimed at recruitment new players for our rarer instruments and I’m really pleased that the up take over all has been much higher than expected and may be something we’ll try again in the future to help recruit specific instruments.

As this is the last blog before the move to BDBF I’d like to be the first to welcome you to our new home. There will be a few emails this week to update you on important changes such as email, the use of attachments.

Have a wonderful rest of the summer term,
