Future Planning and Events
Welcome back after the Easter break and a very productive Spring term of music making. Looking forward we have many exciting summer concerts and events in our diary starting on 6 May with the Brighton Festival Children’s Parade followed by Pitch Perfect - http://brightonfestival.org/event/11306/pitch_perfect/
I’m writing to provide you with an up-date on a number of key local and national developments.
The Modernisation process is progressing well with negotiations moving to a conclusion. I hope to be in a position to up-date you more fully very shortly and to confirm as outlined in my previous communications a formal consultation will take place as part of the process. This is an exciting time for the service and I look forward to working together as a team to continue to develop and increase our music making opportunities for and with the young people in our City.
I am pleased to inform you that I have recently received a letter from the Arts Council England informing us that the Music Education Hub grant is confirmed for 3 years and that the present hub lead organisation will continue to receive the grant directly, as ever subject to the normal criteria. This grant represents around 25% of our total annual funding and this news will enable us to plan over a longer period and continue to work to deliver our aims. This continued funding reflects the importance of our work and the high quality music offer our team and others across the country provide on a daily basis.
Encore our network for past and current supporters of our City Ensembles that raises funds for our young musicians has had a busy spring term with performances at a range of fund raising events including a house concert. We have seen a very generous donation of 2 professional standard instruments and a supporter running the Brighton Marathon to support our work raising £500! Please do take a look if you haven’t had a moment at the Encore section of our website http://www.bhma.org.uk/encore
Lastly Our Future City www.ourfuturecity.org.uk, our cultural partnership, has a residency @The Basement which is an exciting development. As part of the programme we are hosting a series of Meet Ups with guest speakers. The first event takes place on 4 May and is exploring the Music City Movement and sharing findings of a report SoundCity has recently commissioned on young musicians pathways into the Music Industry. Please find a link below to book a place and join the discussion.
