Pupil Progress

Recognising and celebrating pupil progress forms an important part of the learning experience and helps young people to become independent and motivated learners.  To help pupils enjoy their learning and reach their full potential lessons focus on developing a wide range of musical and personal skills.

To achieve this aim:

  • Pupils follow a creative and progressive curriculum which develops all aspects of musical learning

  • Teachers complete progress reports termly, detailing achievements and future learning goals. Reports are emailed directly to parents/carers.

  • Pupils take part in informal graded Performance Assessments during lessons in the summer term and may have the opportunity to receive accreditation through taking external examinations

  • All pupils are encouraged to evaluate their own progress against set criteria

  • Parents/Carers are welcome to attend lessons to support the learning of younger pupils

  • Teachers are always happy to discuss pupil progress or any specific learning needs.

Additional Opportunities

A variety of opportunities are available outside of lessons to enable pupils to consolidate their learning, learn from other teachers and musicians and broaden their musical experiences. All pupils are encouraged to:


  • Perform at school concerts and assemblies

  • Join an ensemble, band, orchestra or techniques class at our Music Centres

  • Sing as part of our Junior and Youth Choir or Vocal Techniques class

  • Take part in city wide projects and events (Diary of events)

  • Sign up for a range of music courses and projects throughout the year
